Brain-Boosting Mocha Magic

Have I ever mentioned that I love Costco? Yes? Well then let me say it again anyway: I LOVE COSTCO!!!

We do the majority of our shopping there now, as they have majorly listened to consumer demand for more wholesome, organic products. We already get whole organic chickens, boneless skinless organic chicken thighs, organic frozen blueberries and cherries, organic eggs, organic ground beef, rBGH free cheeses, organic apples, organic spinach, avocados, and coconut oil there, among other goodies we find sometimes. They are seriously rockin’. Then, when we were there a few days ago, we found ANOTHER gem: Kerrygold grass-fed butter and cheese. For way less than a fortune!

If you aren’t up-to-date on all the different types of butter you can get and which is best for you, it goes something like this:

Margarine: one molecule away from being plastic. They have to add bleach and artificial coloring to even make this stuff LOOK palatable, as it is originally a pasty gray color. Seriously, you might as well suck down a vat of cancer.

Conventional butter: at least it’s actual food, but still pasteurized and full of synthetic growth hormones, antibiotics, and udder pus, probably not the ideal. Especially risky if you have any hormone-related cancers in your family.

Organic pasteurized butter: although the pasteurization breaks down the fragile proteins in the milk, which can then go through your gut wall and into your bloodstream, causing an immune response (hello, food allergies) especially if you have impaired digestion like leaky gut, as almost everyone does these days…it doesn’t have the antibiotics, hormones, and udder pus, so definitely a step up. Still can be hard for the digestion-impaired.

Grass-fed pasteurized butter: when a cow is raised on grass, as nature intended, rather than grain (usually GMO corn and soy) as they are conventionally now, the ratios of omega-3′s to omega-6′s are WAY higher. What you thought you could only get from yucky fish, you can actually get from BUTTER when the cows are raised correctly! This is what the Kerrygold grass-fed butter is.

Raw, grass-fed butter: the big Kahuna of butters. Unpasteurized, grass-fed, full of omega-3′s….usually costs an arm and a leg though, and can be hard to find.

So, I do what I can and bought the Kerrygold grass-fed butter. Now, I had actually never bought grass-fed butter before…I usually just buy organic butter. BOY, is there a difference! It is a deep, beautiful yellow color, and so smooth and silky and delicious! I’m psyched to have another way to add more omega-3′s to our diet, so here’s what I’ve been doing:

Don’t freak out. But…I put it in coffee. What?! Yes. Coffee. It’s just like super rich cream! It makes it AMAZING. But, I also add coconut oil, which has been shown to prevent and even reverse alzheimers (on top of all the other incredible benefits of my favorite superfood), and…oh…I don’t know…CHOCOLATE?? Yeah. Awesomeness.

So, do your tastebuds AND your brain a favor, and whip up a batch of this right now. You won’t be sorry.
